Our son is developing a love of history! He is fascinated with the stories, adventures and, in particular, ancient battles. So, I’ve been on the lookout for a hands on program that incorporates living books, and audio stories that will keep history exciting and that he would enjoy while letting him dive as deeply as […]
I am so excited to share an awesome subscription box that I recently discovered! Do your children love hands on learning that’s fun? I know ours sure do. Do your kids love science, technology, engineering, and math aka STEM? What about comic books? Our son thrives on STEM based learning and being a reluctant reader, comic books have been a big hit with him too! How about all of these things I mentioned with a bit of history and geography thrown in? Then allow me to introduce to you the Know Yourself Adventure Series!
What do you do when your child hates writing? How do you instill a love of writing when it is something that brings nothing but tears and heartache to your child? I must admit I was at a loss when it came to writing in our homeschool. Writing had become an almost painful requirement for both myself and our son. Basic writing prompts only prompted one or two word responses! That is, until a year ago when I discovered Julie Bogart and Brave Writer!
Folks, I am so excited to share a fun strategy math game with you: HoliMaths X Multiplication Game!
Multiplication. Times Tables. Math. These words can strike fear into the hearts of many parents. How many of us hated memorizing our multiplication facts? How many of us loathed the drills and flash cards? *Raises hands in the air and waves them wildly* Needless to say I wanted to give our own child a different experience with the Times Tables. I wanted his journey through Multiplication and Math in general to be filled with fun, joy, and excitement as well as providing a meaningful learning experiences.
Our son has had the best time being creative this week! I mean, this has been top notch fun. We are talking Lego’s and K’nex kind of excitement and creativity over here! If you’ve been here before then you know how much we love building and inspiring our creativity.
I am so excited to share with all of you a wonderful art program from fellow homeschooler and artist Alisha Gratehouse! Alisha is an amazing wife, mom, home educator, art instructor, author and bibliophile. You can find her over at her blog alishagratehouse.com. I was thrilled to discover her “Mixing with the Masters” art course in which we will learn about 6 artists and their various eras and movements. As a former art student (yes, I went to an art college!) I want to instill a love of art into my own children, just as I do with books. The “Mixing with the Masters” art course is the perfect fit for us!
Poetry is a lovely thing. Julie Bogart from Brave Writer says, “Poetry is the candy of language for young children.” I believe that to be so. I personally find poetry to be soothing. But how should one introduce poetry to their children? How does one foster a love of poetry in their children?
We love to play games in our home. We also love creating and designing…creating new structures, creating new ideas for vehicles or armor for pretend play. Our 8 year old son is always creating something new. My husband and I always refer to him as our mad scientist that is up till the wee hours of the morning creating something.
