Our Week in Pictures

May 18, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

Our week began with tree climbing, swings, discovering a patch of wild strawberries, and digging in the dirt! We had lots of play time with friends, including freeze tag, red light green light, and hide-and-go seek! Gabriel even taught one of his friends how to use his sling shot. Both of my children are social butterflies. Our Week in Pictures Gabriel read to our Mama … [Read more...] about Our Week in Pictures

A Day in the Life of an Unschooled Scientist

April 13, 2015 by Erin Vincent 32 Comments

Gabriel and I both woke up at 8am. He went into his "LEGO Room" to build while I made breakfast. Around 9:30am my toddler, Jade, was up and ready to get the day going. When I asked them what we should do first they immediately yelled "Go Outside!" Okey Dokey, outside it will be. We headed for our favorite trail that circles around our apartment complex. It is awesome, because you feel … [Read more...] about A Day in the Life of an Unschooled Scientist

Our Week in Pictures

April 5, 2015 by Erin Vincent 30 Comments

This week was one of the most beautiful since spring began. It was fairly warm and the sun was shining here in Georgia. So, we spent most of our time outdoors hiking and climbing trees! The kids used their binoculars or "Onoculist" as my daughter Jade calls them, to look for birds and squirrels. We followed deer tracks and found sweet little flowers on the forest floor. Our Week in … [Read more...] about Our Week in Pictures

The First Hike of Spring

April 4, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

The weather has been steadily warming and today the sun is shining. Its time for a first hike of spring! But first things first...Gabriel wants face paint. He is slightly obsessed with J. R. R. Tolkiens Goblins/ Orks. He seems to feel the face paint somehow connects him to these mysterious creatures. Also, the best way to be prepared for an adventure is...face paint? Well, you never know what … [Read more...] about The First Hike of Spring

What Homeschool Looks Like

April 2, 2015 by Erin Vincent 4 Comments

The Science Festival in Atlanta, GA. is a very exciting experience for a science loving kid. It is a first for Gabriel as is the train ride to Centennial Olympic Park where all of the booths are set up! Gabriel had me put war paint on him before getting dressed....because that's what you do as a 7 year old boy about to go on an adventure! He may or may not have an obsession with J. R. R. … [Read more...] about What Homeschool Looks Like

What Homeschool Looks Like

March 30, 2015 by Erin Vincent 4 Comments

Sometimes Homeschool looks like playing chess, outside at the local nature preserve...with river rocks.  Other times it looks like a 4 hour class on bird identification, bird calls and bird crafts. At least that's what Homeschool looked like on March 27th. What Homeschool Looks Like … [Read more...] about What Homeschool Looks Like

What Homeschool Looks Like

March 18, 2015 by Erin Vincent 6 Comments

This post is a part of the What Homeschooling Looks Like series over at Our Life At Home. What Homeschool Looks Like Last week we went on a Ranger led Hike through the Johns Creek Enviromental Campus/Recreational Park with about 50 other homeschoolers in raining 42 degree weather. It was about an hour and a half long. We learned about Poison Ivy, the Water Filtration Cycle through the forest, … [Read more...] about What Homeschool Looks Like

When your homeschool plans go the way of the dinosaurs

March 18, 2015 by Erin Vincent 20 Comments

A St. Patrick's Day that didn't go as planned. Today is St. Patrick's Day and as such I thought my son Gabriel might like to learn about Ireland.  We are interest led homeschoolers. I let our son choose what he wants to learn. I may make suggestions on something I think he will enjoy learning but most days it is completely up to him. On this particular day, I thought that with all of his friends … [Read more...] about When your homeschool plans go the way of the dinosaurs

What Homeschool Looks Like

March 11, 2015 by Erin Vincent 12 Comments

This post is a part of the What Homeschool Looks Like series over at Our Life At Home. I chose this photo of my son as we were leaving the library this week. The library is such a magical place for us. The whole world is at our fingertips. I have a strict policy when I take my son to the library.....He chooses what he wants to read, always. I never make him pick a book. I may give him … [Read more...] about What Homeschool Looks Like

Interest Led Learning: A Prehistoric Boy

February 17, 2015 by Erin Vincent 10 Comments

My son has been a dinosaur fanatic ever since he was 3 years old. This passion has spilled over into everyday life for us. What started out as a little boys interest has led to many museum visits, documentaries, puzzles, science experiments, internet searches, geography, mapping skills, and paleontology summer camps. As a family, we have all learned more about the Permian, Jurassic, Triassic, … [Read more...] about Interest Led Learning: A Prehistoric Boy
