Our Family Hike Along the River

Sunday is the only day of the week that my husband is off. We decided to spend our day together out in nature, at the Jones Bridge Trail off of the Chattahoochee River. This beautiful trail is a 4.6 mile loop that includes remnants of the old bridge built in 1904, dismantled and largely stolen in the 1940’s, as well as access to the river itself. We arrived around 10am and the trail was alive with the songs of birds and the the sounds of the river. We found spring blossoms along the trail. We found shells and a crab claw along the river, as well as geese and other water birds fishing. It was so very lovely!

We didn’t manage the entire trail. Jade started to get tired and cranky around 1pm, so once we got to the old bridge, we turned around and headed back. But not before finding a few awesome walking sticks, and a cool rocky outcropping that contained a small cave. This was the perfect playground!

It’s always so nice to reconnect with my family and with nature. My husband and I walked away feeling more grounded and relaxed. The kids walked away with an exciting story to tell.

Hi Erin, getting out in the fresh air is a wonderful way to reconnect with your family. Love the name Chattahoochee River, it sounds like something out of a Walt Disney film! Lovely photos too!

Thanks Debbie! Chattahoochee is believed to be derived from the Creek Native Americans words, "chatta" (rock) and "hoochee" (river) or "River of painted rock."

Nothing better than getting back to nature and exploring as a family! I love the bridge and the sheer size of some of those boulders in comparison to the kids is amazing. What a lovely place to be able to walk to.

This past week was National Park Week so we took our kids on a hike in our local National Park. Similar park to yours with the partial bridge and a walk through the woods. We passed a Mile 100 marker so we let the kids believe we walked over 100 miles that day.
We enjoy family walks and it’s always an adventure for the kids! Great post!

I share your love for family walks in nature. It’s so very relaxing, looking at the beauty of the forest, listening to the sounds … The children are having fun kicking the leaves, jumping in puddles and finding just. the. right. stick. Seeing your beautiful images makes me look forward to the weekend again!
