We first found out about Gentle Guitar through The Homeschool Sisters Podcast and have been taking guitar lessons since March 2017. Our son loved it so much that after the free trial we decided to continue the lessons. We were skeptical at first, but after the first couple of lessons on Skype, we quickly realized that this was an amazing way for our son to learn how to play guitar.
Our son first became interested in guitar lessons after a Doctor Who episode in which the 12th Doctor rocked out on his electric guitar. If you know us, then you know we love Doctor Who and are total Whovians! After that episode, our son wanted to watch videos of guitar players rocking out on their instruments. He loved it! His goal is to practice an acoustic guitar until Christmas with the hopes of getting an electric guitar from Santa.

What are the Benefits of Online Guitar Lessons?
Gentle Guitar offers lessons for kids and is taught to you and your child one-on-one via Skype. Their teaching method is designed for children. It adapts to them at their level of development. I love that there was no drill and kill. If our son picked up on a lesson quickly, then they moved on to the next.
So what are the benefits of learning guitar over SKYPE?
- Flexible schedule – Schedule lessons at times that work for your family.
- Parents accompany their children and learn right alongside them. I have never played the guitar before, but I’m learning with our son!
- Convenience – Gentle Guitar emails you the music and lessons so there’s no need to run out and buy a certain music book. Having guitar lessons in our home also means that I don’t have to go out and find lessons in our area. Sometimes we even have lessons in our PJ’s!
- You can try a FREE lesson from Gentle Guitar before committing!
What does our son think of his Gentle Guitar Lessons?
Our son is a perfectionist of the highest order. We have found that learning to play the guitar has offered him a way to learn how to deal with his perfectionism. Most people cannot simply sit down and play an instrument or read music. It takes practice. This is something he is not used to having to do and it’s been great for him!
He also thought it fantastic to converse with teachers from the United Kingdom and Denmark. We’ve pulled out our maps and learned a bit of Europe’s geography because of this.
“It feels like I’m right there with my teacher and they teach me in a fun way. I really enjoy it!”

Gentle Guitar Lessons for Homeschool
Inga and John, at Gentle Guitar, have been fantastic at engaging our son with his guitar lessons while also providing him with patience and encouragement.
I love how the instructors really get to know the child and then incorporate the interests of the child into the lessons making them more engaging. Interests such as a pet snake, a favorite Lego set, or a favorite book series have all made appearances during guitar lessons.
This is an amazing program especially for sensitive, intense and perfectionist type kiddos who may not do well in a regular lesson setting. Complex musical content is broken down into fun written activities, easy progressive exercises, and musical games.
Don’t hesitate! Give it a try and see for yourself!

That’s wonderful. My oldest son took guitar lessons for quite a few years when he was in elementary school and he was quite good at it too. I was so disappointed when he gave it up. I have nominated you for a blogger recognition award. You can check it out here: http://www.ourunschoolingjourney.com/2017/06/my-blogger-recognition-award.html

This is an interesting post. I’ll have to hang on to it for our 4 grandsons that are too small right now – all 3 down to 3 months.
