A Perfect Day at Nana’s House

We are celebrating two birthdays in the month of March…my husbands birthday is the 16th and his moms birthday is the 13th. Because the birthdays are so close together, we try to get together on the weekend of the birthdays each year. There is nothing better than spending time with the ones you love. So, this year we took the hour drive down to his moms house or as the kids call her “Nana Charlie.” Gabriel gave her that name when he was only 3 years old. She had a shitzu named Charlie that Gabriel adored. Gabriel started calling her “Nana Charlie” one day instead of just “Nana” because he could always remember Charlie and it kinda stuck. Now he and Jade both call her “Nana Charlie.”

A Perfect Day

A Perfect Day at Nana’s House

The great thing about going to “Nana Charlies” house, besides Nana herself, is her huge back yard. The kids always have the best time running wild and climbing trees in her yard. On this beautiful early spring day, Jade took it upon herself to investigate all of the new spring flowers that had popped up as soon as she could. There were camellias, hyacinths, dandelions, henbit, daffodils, and chinese redbuds in bloom all around Nana’s yard.

A Perfect Day at Nana's House

While Jade was investigating the flowers, Gabriel was playing Transformers and cars with Nana.

Once Jade was satisfied with the flowers, she moved on to digging and mowing the yard.

I finally got a picture of the birthday kids before everyone was off across the yard again.

Later, we went inside for a birthday lunch that I prepared and then Nana and the kids curled up on the couch with their blankies so that Gabriel could read to them. Our dog Faith may or may not be a shameless beggar for belly rubs.

When the story was over, it was time to climb trees with Papa! Jade wouldn’t hear of being left on the ground. Whatever brother does, she does it too! Even if she is wearing a skirt AND has kicked off her shoes somewhere in the yard!

A Perfect Day

Then, before we knew it, the sun was setting and the day was done. Where did the time go? It seems it was spent outside and with those we love. We gave lots of hugs and kisses and said our goodbyes….until we are together again. Still, it was a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Ahh I can’t wait until the weather is nice enough for Elsa to get outside and explore in the garden. It needs some work on it first but it’s been far too rainy so far this year!
