A Doctor Who, Paleobiology, and Minecraft Kind of Week

September 14, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

As Unschoolers our children choose what and when they want to learn something. We never force learning because we have found that our children learn better, and are happier when they get to decide what it is they want to learn about.  Their love of learning blossomed when we got out of their way and let them take the lead in their education. Making Nature Fairies

September 14, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

This week the children and I decided to make nature fairies as a welcome to the coming of fall. We saw a post about making them at Twig and Toadstool and the kids loved the idea. With the first cool nights and the leaves changing colors, this is a great time for collecting items outdoors. First we went on a nature hike and found  pine cones, acorns, rocks, sticks and leaves. … [Read more...] about Making Nature Fairies

Harry Potter Day Activities for Kids

September 7, 2015 by Erin Vincent 4 Comments

On Friday morning our son, Gabriel, woke up and proclaimed the day to be Harry Potter Day. Now, internationally, "Harry Potter Day" is on May 2nd, but in our home it was September 4th. Gabriel declared that we could only do Harry Potter themed crafts, experiments, movies, books, etc. Normally we don't do "themed crafts." Can you imagine my mad dash for Pinterest? Thank goodness I found a … [Read more...] about Harry Potter Day Activities for Kids

Our Edible Plant Hike

August 24, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

On Friday I took our son, Gabriel, on a hike with a group of other homeschoolers. This hike was led by a Ranger and was going to cover the native edible plants in our area. We arrived at the Chattanooga River Environmental Education Center a bit early so we meandered around the pond until the others arrived. We had to watch our step because the ground was covered in duck poop, but the … [Read more...] about Our Edible Plant Hike

A Week in the Life of Unschoolers

August 11, 2015 by Erin Vincent Leave a Comment

Last week we were on our eight day vacation at the farm in Tennessee. This week, we are back home in Georgia. We got back home Sunday evening and had a grand time unpacking the car. If you have ever traveled with children then you can imagine how messy the vehicle was. We took it to the car wash station and gave it a good bath and vacuuming. My son, Gabriel, began his … [Read more...] about A Week in the Life of Unschoolers

This week was full and I found that I lost track of time quite a bit. Of course, I never mind losing track when we are out in nature. We hiked some familiar trails this week and one new … [Read more...] about A Week in the Life of Unschoolers
