*Disclosure: I received FabuLingua at no cost and was compensated for my time in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I only choose to share resources that I would use with my own family and those that I believe other families will enjoy and benefit from.

Folks, I’m always on the lookout for resources that make learning fun, engaging, and interesting. Take foreign language for example. My kiddos have adored Foreign Languages for Kids as an immersion method for learning Spanish. But when I heard there was a story-based Spanish learning App that uses interactive stories I was beyond excited!

If you’ve been around my blog for any length of time, then you know how much we LOVE stories of all kinds.

FabuLingua is our kind of homeschool resource and I am tickled pink to share this Spanish storytelling App for kids with you.

*Did you know that in light of current events, with many schools closed for the foreseeable future, FabuLingua has made the decision to make their Spanish storytelling app open and completely free to all users during the pandemic situation? They have a statement here if you’d like to learn more.*

Magical Translations with a Storytelling Spanish Language App

This is a unique method to help your child learn a second language. The FabuLingua App works through the Magical Translations method. This means that your child only sees Spanish text but hears the narrator’s alternate between Spanish and English translation as the words are highlighted. As children hear the words again and again in both Spanish and English they start to make the language connections.

These are beautiful stories with lovely characters that help children develop their ear, comprehension, and reading skills through imitation. The watercolor illustrations really drew my daughter in.

How to Use FabuLingua

FabuLingua is recommended for ages 2-10.

Below, you can see the home screen of the FabuLingua App on my daughter’s iPad. Each little icon allows your child to select a story from the ever-growing collection.

Kids can choose their interaction preferences.

  • They may choose the Spanish Only mode in which they can listen to the story in Spanish.
  • The Copy Cat mode allows your kiddo and the narrator to go through the story together. Your child will record their part and then compare it to the narrator for clarity in proper pronunciation.
  • After your child has finished the Copy Cat mode and when they feel ready, they can then try the Read By Myself mode. This mode takes the narrator’s voice out as your child reads and records the story with their own voice.
  • There are also story-related vocabulary games for your kiddos to play!

Magical and Fun Storytelling

FabuLingua has created a program that uses the power of reading stories to help children learn Spanish!

The Magical Translations that FabuLingua uses with its stories gently and consistently expose children to natural storytelling, therefore, making each story comprehensible to little ears. Click over to FabuLingua to learn more about this magical method.

Below, you can see a snippet of one of the delightful stories about a stuffed bear named Hugo!

FabuLingua’s stories are sweet and compelling. The interactive aspect makes the app engaging. I adore the Magical Translation method as does my daughter. After each lesson, she collects stickers that she adds to her digital sticker book. These stickers are characters and items from stories she has finished.

My daughter loves that she can move through a story at her own speed.

Many of the images on each page of a story are interactive. So, your child can click around, and the narrator will say the name of the object in Spanish.

Below, you can see just some of the interactive aspects within each page of a story.

The only thing you’ll need to use FabuLingua is a smart phone or tablet! However, FabuLingua will be releasing a desktop version in the future.
