An Inspiring Picture Book About Patricia Bath
My kids love books.
And
My kids love science.
So, I am so thrilled to share this picture book about Dr. Patricia Bath with you!
Who is Patricia Bath you ask?
Patricia Bath is ONLY the inventor of the Laserphaco Probe. This probe is a device that removes cataracts!
She is also the first woman in the United States to serve as head of an ophthalmology residency training program, co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness, and the first African American female doctor to obtain a medical patent in the United States!
She’s kind of a big deal.

An Inspiring Picture Book About Patricia Bath
The Doctor With An Eye For Eyes: The Story of Dr. Patricia Bath is a delightful rhyming picture book about Patricia growing up during the Civil Rights movement and her perseverance in becoming an eye doctor and inventor. There is even a timeline in the back of the book of Patricia’s life from birth to present that your children can follow!
Patricia believed that over half of all blindness was preventable and that everyone had a “right to sight.”
Even when faced with obstacles, she never gave up! That is exactly the kind of heroine I want my daughter reading about!
*Patricia’s story was as inspiring to my daughter as it was to my son*
The Doctor With An Eye For Eyes: The Story of Dr. Patricia Bath
The Doctor With An Eye For Eyes: The Story of Dr. Patricia Bath is an engaging and thought-provoking book. After I read it to the children, my daughter kept asking me to re-read it. Plus the kids had the best questions. The kind of questions that are perfect for big juicy conversations!
