*Disclosure: I was compensated for my time in exchange for an honest review of All Fish Faces: Photos & Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish. I was not required to write a positive review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I only choose to share resources that I would use with my own family and those that I believe other families will enjoy and benefit from.
My daughter loves all things ocean. She enjoys learning about the different species and habitats in our seas as well as looking at bright colorful photographs of underwater worlds.
That’s why I was happy to get my hands on the book All Fish Faces: Photos & Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish by Tam Warner Minton.
A Solo Female Scuba Diver and a Tropical Fish Picture Book
Not only do I want to provide my kids with great books about their interests, but I also want to provide my daughter with strong female role models, and I believe Tam Minton to be one such role model.
Tam has traveled all seven continents. She’s an adventurer, writer, author, and scuba diver with a passion for showing kids the marine life beneath our oceans.
I love that my daughter can look up to such a strong female and see so many possibilities including underwater photography! You can read more about Tam Milton by visiting her website.
Fish Faces from All Around the World
This book is loaded with colorful fish photographs that Tam took herself on her many explorations from around the world. She pays special attention to their fish faces because their faces, like ours, all look alike and yet different at the same time.
I love that every fish is labeled with its species and the location where Tam photographed it! For example, she has photos of Triggerfish from Cozumel, Raja Ampat, and Komodo! All of the fish species are accompanied by fun facts for you to explore with your kiddo. There are 13 different fish represented in all not to mention the different varieties withing each species!
- Pufferfish
- Angelfish
- Butterflyfish
- Parrotfish
- Triggerfish
- Filefish
- Frogfish
- Splendid Toadfish
- Scorpionfish
- Lionfish
- Boxfish
- Groupers
- Anemonefish
Save the Ocean
In the center of the book, Tam talks about the different steps we can all take to help save the oceans including:
- conserve energy by turning off lights when you leave a room
- take showers instead of baths
- unplug all electronics when not in use
- switch to reusable shopping bags
- carry a water bottle
I love that she points out how our everyday choices make a difference in the health of our oceans.
