Kayaking and Canoeing…. I’ve been wanting to have just such an adventure with the children all summer! We finally received our opportunity at Warrior’s Path State Park here in East Tennessee! We have a homeschool group that meets there every Thursday afternoon for a Ranger led excursion and talk about the local flora and fauna. This week one of the rangers was leading a kayaking and canoeing adventure on the lake!

Another week has come and gone. Anyone else exhausted? I know I sure am. Perhaps I just need more caffeine in the way of coffee! I always start my day with coffee and now that we’ve entered into a new school year I like to start my day with a bit of encouragement.
Your brain is the most complex part of your body! It is the part of your body that tells you what’s going on around you. The brain even creates the thoughts and feelings that make up your personality! This is definitely a part of the body we need to know more about! The kids and I enjoyed some fun brain activities, this week, that included interesting brain facts, the different parts of the brain and its history.
Summer is coming to an end here in the mountains of Tennessee and with the cooler nights comes the change in seasons. Autumn is upon us as is apple picking, falling leaves and of course pumpkins! Changes in the seasons results in changes in the seasonal books on our shelves. I hope you enjoy some of our fall favorites!
I haven’t written “A Day in the Life” post since our move as it has taken us many months to transition from crisis mode to finding our new rhythm. But found it we have. Typically, Thursdays are homeschool co-op and Ranger led hikes at the state park, Fridays are field trips and art (we are currently using an online program called Mixing with the Masters), and Saturdays are for library visits. Which reminds me….we owe our library $22 in fines! Yikes! Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are when we do the bulk of our Reading, Writing, Maths, Science and History. But no day looks exactly the same. We go with the flow and try to keep to the natural rhythm of the seasons, and our family.
Folks, I am so excited to share a fun strategy math game with you: HoliMaths X Multiplication Game!
Multiplication. Times Tables. Math. These words can strike fear into the hearts of many parents. How many of us hated memorizing our multiplication facts? How many of us loathed the drills and flash cards? *Raises hands in the air and waves them wildly* Needless to say I wanted to give our own child a different experience with the Times Tables. I wanted his journey through Multiplication and Math in general to be filled with fun, joy, and excitement as well as providing a meaningful learning experiences.
